Smart Ports – Piers of the Future: why was MAGPIE present in Barcelona?

From the 7th to the 9th November, some MAGPIE partners were attending the Smart City Expo, a global event taking place in Barcelona. While this is still indirectly connected to our project, because a green port is essential for a green city, there has been a more direct incentive for MAGPIE to travel to Barcelona: the Smart Port – Piers of the Future conference, which is organized as a sub-event within the program of the expo. A dedicated exhibitors area was open at this occasion and MAGPIE was represented with a stand. The visitors could discover what is our project and have the opportunity to discuss with our two representatives Maaike Dalhuisen (Port of Rotterdam) and José Sanchez (AIVP). The latter has been invited to moderate a session entitled “Port City Renaissance: Redefining Port City Landscapes through Innovative Development Models “. In addition to this, Maaike Dalhuisen was invited to be a speaker during the PIONEERS general assembly, held in parallel to the Smart City Expo. PIONEERS is the sister project of MAGPIE and one of its core members is the Port of Barcelona. To complete the picture, Oscar Van Veen (Port of Rotterdam) was invited to be a speaker in a round table entitled “Innovation in the blue economy”, another opportunity window for him to disclose information about MAGPIE, between other subjects. A lot of positive things for MAGPIE have happened in Barcelona, last month, as you can read!
